About this portrait

A queen pet portrait in the Her Imperial Highness style crowns your pet outright: an emerald velvet Tudor gown embroidered in silver and rose, a stiff gold collar standing up behind the neck, three ropes of pearls, a sapphire pendant, and a small jewelled crown sitting exactly where a crown sits on an animal who has not consented to wearing one.

The background is a soft warm brown, deliberately plain, so the green and gold have somewhere to sit. This is the most decorated style in the range and the composition works hard to keep it from tipping over into clutter — the embroidery gets busier the further it is from the face, and quietest right under the chin.

What makes a queen pet portrait different from a plain crown

Plenty of pet art puts a crown on a photo and stops there. Here the crown is the smallest part of it. The gown, the collar, the pearls and the posture all do the work, so the piece reads as a real court portrait first and a joke second — which is why it survives on a living room wall rather than getting quietly moved to a spare room.

Calico and tortoiseshell cats look extraordinary in a queen pet portrait, because the rust and cream in their coats answers the rose embroidery in the gown. Terriers with white blazes work well too: the white runs down into the gold collar and ties the whole thing together. Very pale or white coats need the darker frame options so the head does not float.

How your queen pet portrait is made

Send one clear photo taken at the animal’s eye level, face towards the camera, with light on the eyes. A slight tilt of the head is welcome in this style — it makes the crown look even less earned. The photo guide shows what works and what does not, and it is almost always about light and angle.

The image is generated in this style and then individually reviewed and refined by a person before print. Markings are checked against your photo, eye colour is corrected, and the shape of the ears and muzzle is brought back to your animal instead of a generic one. You approve a proof, normally within one to three working days, before anything is printed. Revisions are free and there is no limit on them. If your photo cannot carry the style, we ask for a different one before starting.

Sizes, framing and finish

Framed, canvas or digital download. Framed prints use 200gsm matte paper in a real pine frame with shatterproof plexiglass and a hanging kit, ready to hang straight away, roughly four to six days after approval. Canvas is slim 2cm stretched cotton-polyester, five to six days. Black framing gives this style a formal, gallery feel; white lifts it and suits a lighter room.

Sizes are 8×12, 12×18, 16×24 and 24×36 inches. Because of the amount of embroidery detail, 12×18 is the smallest size where the gown really reads properly — below that it becomes texture rather than pattern. Free tracked shipping on every order. The Royal & Regal collection has quieter options if this one is more gown than your wall can take.

Questions about this portrait

Is this style only for female pets?
Most people choose it for a female pet, but nothing about the piece requires it and plenty of male pets have worn the gown with total confidence.

Will a queen pet portrait look like my actual cat?
Yes. The costume is fixed; the animal is matched to your photo by a person before printing, and you see and approve a proof first.

Can I add my pet’s name?
Names are added at the design step where the style supports them. Tell us the spelling exactly as you want it — it is the single most common thing people ask to change at proof stage.

How long until a queen pet portrait is on the wall?
One to three working days for the proof, then four to six days framed or five to six on canvas, with tracking throughout.

A share of every month’s orders goes back to rescued animals.
